Fish Names
Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)
Origin:-Amazon region of South America
Size:-Up to 6" in length, the top and bottom fins spanning a greater distance in the Veil varieties.
Diet:-Raw beef heart, finely ground, mixed with unflavored gelatin and frozen immediately in small one serving size pieces is a good and economical addition to your Angelfish diet.
Tank Size:-The minimum size tank for a breeding pair of Angelfish is 15 gallons, but should be 25 gallons or larger

Convict Cichlid - Archocentrus nigrofasciatus
Origin: Southern Central America.
Temperament: Aggressive.
Care: Feed with vegetable flakes and small fish. Hiding places are needed. Plants will be eaten.
To Imperial
Temperature Range: 20-25°C.
pH: 6.5-8
Potential Size: 15cm
Breeding: Breeding is not hard if there are planty of hiding places.

Sex: Sex can be determined by a bump on the head of the mature male. Females have orange scales on their front underside.

Festive Cichlid (Mesonauta festivum)
Giant Gourami - Osphronemus gorami


Origin: Asia.

Temperament: Young fish may fight, but older fish can range from placid to temperamental. Will eat small fish.

Care: Easy to feed, the Giant Gourami will accept almost any food. Grows quickly. Plants are an important addition to the tank. Quite hardy.
Breeding: Difficult due to size restrictions, but not impossible. The eggs are laid on a nest made from plants. Do not remove the parents.

Sex: The male has longer, extended anal and dorsal fins.

Oscar - Astronotus ocellatus
Origin: Amazon River, South America.
Temperament: Peaceful towards fish its own size or larger
Care: Feed with flakes and live food such as fish and cockroaches. Use potted plants as Oscars can be quite destructive. A Very large tank and strong filtration are needed.
Breeding: Use a higher temperature of up to 29°C. Only use fish over 15cm. Place a large rock in the tank for the Oscars to breed on. The eggs are laid on the carefully cleaned rock.
Sex: Not easily distinguishable. Sex can be determined by examination of the mature oscar's vent. Females have a more rounded 'appendage' then the males (of course this information is useless unless you have two fish of the opposite sex to compare). Females grow smaller than their male counterparts.
